Book lovers in Corsham are needed at the town library as staff prepare to relocate its collection to the new community campus.

An appeal has gone out for volunteers for the new library at the Springfield Campus, which is looking to extend its opening hours.

Community librarian Jessica Phillips said: “The library currently isn’t open on a Monday morning, all day on Wednesday or Saturday afternoons, so we are looking for volunteers to cover the Monday and Wednesday shifts.

“It would be brilliant if they have an interest in books and reading, but we really just need someone who is friendly and can talk to people. Basic IT skills would also be great, but full training will be given.”

Drop-in sessions are taking place today between 2pm and 4pm and on Tuesday, April 29, between 10am and noon, when prospective volunteers can find out more.

Preparations for the move are already well under way.

Ms Phillips said: “The library is due to move on July 11, and probably our biggest piece of work in the year is the summer reading challenge which starts the day after, so we’re going to be busy.

“We are currently doing lots of work to do with local studies, and we are having a lovely piece of local artwork produced for the new campus, which will have a graphic timeline with some old photographs and early maps of the town.”
