A pair of budding young directors are searching for cast members to join their production after people dropped out.

Issy Jacob and Emily Beattles, both 15, who are pupils at St Laurence School, Bradford on Avon, have written a musical production of POP!, based on the popular book by author Catherine Brutton.

The show is part of a project to get young people aged 12-16 involved in all aspects of putting on a production – performing, directing, stage managing and more.

Recruiting members for all areas of the production was successful and POP! was due to take place after Easter, but March saw cast members drop out.

Issy, from Trowbridge, said: “We’ve had to postpone the show until the summer. It has been very disheartening.

“We have nine cast members and are looking to double that. We especially need more boys to sign up.”

The friends received £800 from Trowbridge Area Board to produce the show, which is now set for July 21, 22 and 23 at The Arc Theatre in Trowbridge.

Laura Burt, 16, from John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge, is playing the main part of Elfie.

She said: “I’m doing drama for GCSE so it is a great opportunity. There must be some people out there interested in drama?”

Catherine Brutton is backing the project all the way. She said: “I am so excited that these young people have managed to script and stage the book so well.”

Rehearsals will be at Town Hall in Trowbridge. To get involved, email Trowbridge Arts at trowarts@gmail.com
