Trowbridge Rugby Club is inviting the town to join them for a community fun day on Saturday to celebrate an incredible first season at Doric Park.

The club, which recently secured a memorable RFU Intermediate Cup final win at Twickenham, will have lots on offer from 1pm, including the chance to meet Bath Rugby stars Stuart Hooper and Nick Abendanon.

There will also be the Wadworth shire horses, an inflatable bouncy castle, assault course, slide and under-fives’ play area, competitions and challenges, stalls, guest beers, food and barbecue, plus a live group in the evening.

The event, which will be hosted in conjunction with Avon Valley Runners, Red Hot Chillies Triathlon Club and Active Trowbridge, will also include open skittles and tug-of-war competitions.

Rugby operations manager Kevin Davis said: “It’s the club opening its doors and saying come and join us and celebrate our fantastic first season at Doric Park.

“It really has exceeded all our expectations.

“The way we have come together on the site and made it work has helped facilitate the success on the field, but we want to make it clear that this is a community facility and it is here for everyone to use.

“We did do fun days at Green Lane, but they were much more low key. There were many people who didn’t know we existed then and that’s not the case now. The fun day is also a way of saying thank you to everyone for their support at Twickenham.”

The club’s end of season dinner takes place tomorrow.

He said: “There is still a real buzz around the place. Everyone is still on a high and the dinner and fun day will be a great celebration and a good way to end the season, before we start thinking about pre-season.”

Trowbridge Town Council is in talks with the club about organising a civic reception for the club, but nothing will be decided before a new mayor is elected on Monday.
