Ambitious expansion plans have been unveiled for Matravers School in Westbury, with a substantial investment to come from Wiltshire Council.

The council will be investing £125,000 in a kitchen for post-16 catering students and this is due to open in September.

A further £200,000 has been provided to deliver general upgrades across the site including building improvement and complete redecoration.

The school is also looking at funding for an IT centre, a hair and beauty salon for GCSE and post-16 students, a horticulture centre and a fitness suite.

Headteacher Dr Simon Riding said: "These are exciting times for Matravers School with our rapidly expanding horizons. We seek to provide a diverse range of opportunities for our students through our facilities.

“Whilst we all acknowledge that buildings alone don't deliver outstanding education, we are clear that these enhancements to our facilities will make a substantial difference to both our current students and the significant number of students joining us in Year seven and Year 12 next year."

Guy Davies, chairman of governors, said: "We welcome this continued support from Wiltshire Council which is helping us to upgrade our facilities. Our site ranges in date from some very old buildings alongside more modern ones.

“Any opportunity to upgrade our facilities for the benefit of our students will always be taken."

Matravers School is classed as a Foundation School for pupils aged 11-18.

I agree, we are always the last to get everything in Westbury. What happened to the new school we were promised about 5 years ago?
