Bowerhill Primary in Melksham visited Southwick Country Park for a morning of discovery.

Old clothes and wellies were the order of the day for the 53 pupils as Wiltshire Council’s Environment Services team, with support from the Friends of Southwick Country Park, helped them build hedgehog homes, reptile hibernacula, and provided a quiz to incorporate elements of the National Curriculum, helping them to think about how to manage the environment sustainably.

The focus of the visit was to look at various habitats and plants around the country park that helped encourage wildlife, with the aim of equipping pupils with the skills and understanding of how to act responsibly when out in the countryside, and how to create their own wildlife area back at school.

Despite a few muddy hands and clothes, a fun morning was had by all.
