Armed forces veterans manned the water point in Heytesbury during the 137-mile Forces March.

Members of Warminster’s Royal British Legion, together with members of the women’s section from Heytesbury and the Wiltshire Royal Green Jackets Association, unfurled their standards and saluted the participants as they marched past at the end of May, on their way to the final destination 18 miles away in Bulford.

The march is organised by The Veterans Charity and is now in its fifth year. It commemorates a march by the soldiers of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in August 1942 from Ilfracombe, Devon, to Bulford, Wiltshire.

Roger Kingshott, vice chairman of the Warminster RBL, said: “We are supporting the walkers and it is a good thing to remember what they are doing it for.”

Danny Greeno, chief executive officer of the charity, said: “It is a great morale boost for those taking part.”

This year, 75 people participated and raised more than £30,000 for the charity.
