Wiltshire charity Alzheimer’s Support has thanked customers of Sainsbury’s Trowbridge store who raised £3,600 during the past year.
Alzheimer’s Support was charity of the year for the store in 2013-14. As well as money donated by shoppers, the store gave food for memory cafes and other events, arranged bag packs and store collections, and allowed the store café to be used for special events run by the charity.
Store manager Val Atwill said the highlight of the year for her was when the charity’s dementia choir sang to shoppers in the café.
At Easter the store sold knitted chicks made by the charity’s fundraising team. More recently, the café hosted a Dementia Friends information event and staff also attended a session as part of a staff development morning.
Alzheimer’s Support chief executive Anna Littlechild said: “We have had a fantastic partnership with Sainsbury’s in Trowbridge. We have been supported in so many ways and we hope we have been able to give something back by raising awareness of dementia among store staff.”
Ms Atwill said: “We were thrilled to have been able to support this very worthwhile charity.”
