One of Lacock’s best-loved buildings will get a new lease of life, as the latest tenants take over one of Wiltshire’s oldest inns.

The 15th century At the Sign of the Angel has been empty since January, with many people raising concerns over the future of the landmark, which doubled as the Babberton Arms in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

However, its future looks to be secure now two brothers from Melksham have stepped in.

Tom and Jack Nicholas, who run Whitley Golf Club, have taken on the lease of the hotel and restaurant, and hope to see customers return soon.

Tom Nicholas said: “We’re going through repairs and redecorating, it will be a complete refurbishment. It’s a unique building, in what is a lovely village, and it seemed like a good opportunity to create a place that’s serving great food and can be a place bringing people to Lacock.”

A new executive chef has joined the brothers as a partner, with final employment details due to be agreed soon, and they are also looking to recruit staff from the village and local area.

Mr Nicholas said: “We’ll be offering seasonal British cuisine, using local produce, and in time we will be able to produce our own, as there is a paddock out the back, linked with the pub.

“I have grown up and lived here my whole life and I know it pretty well. We are working closely with the National Trust in terms of refurbishment.

“Initially we will be very much involved to get it up to speed, then there will be management in place, with the head chef running things.”

The brothers hope to have the pub up and running by autumn.
