Westbury Leigh School celebrated its 10th anniversary in its new building, on Sandalwood Road, with a garden party on Friday.

The party was opened by Sophie Annetts, wife of John Annetts who was a school governor for 25 years and a former Mayor of Westbury. He died in 2002, aged 68.

She unveiled at picture of him in his memory.

She said: “I feel I am representing my departed husband today. He worked so hard for the school.”

Headteacher Debbie Grimsey said: “A lot has changed in terms of education, but the school has gone from strength to strength. The results get better each year because the staff work so hard.”

Susan Martin, who retired as deputy headteacher a year ago, said: “When we moved in 2004 our aim was to retain that village atmosphere which I think we’ve achieved.”
