Firefighters to return to the picket lines
11:58am Friday 20th June 2014 in News
Firefighters are preparing to return to the picket line this weekend, as they prepare for a further strike, nine days after the longest walkout of their long-running dispute.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union will strike from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, as part of a continued protest over proposed changes to their pension and conditions.
Full-time firefighters in Chippenham, and part-time retained officers in Pewsey and Calne will take part in the national protest, with back-up provided from alternative crews across the country, and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has warned the public to take extra care on Saturday.
Last Thursday firefighters completed their first 24-hour strike, which saw relief crews called to 20 incidents across the county, among these a car fire on the M4, a fire at a waste compactor in Royal Wootton Bassett, a tent fire in woods near Chippenham and a care worker locked out of a building in Marlborough, as well as two false alarms.
