Vintage timetravel at Semington Wessex Vintage Gathering
7:00pm Friday 27th June 2014 in News
Visitors stepped back in time at the weekend when members of Wessex Vintage staged their annual Midsummer gathering for the fifth year.
It was held near Semington, Trowbridge, and there were hundreds of historic items, from static engines to vintage cars and tractors.
Chairman Eric Gay was delighted with the sunny weather.
He said: “It all started with four good friends and myself and it’s grown like Topsy.”
Among the exhibitors was Clive Compton, showing a former Air Ministry generator for the first time. Mr Compton said: “We were told this 1942 Tangyes generator was used to power the search lights at Westbury White Horse during the war years, but we would love to get some more information on this huge machine.”
Also making his debut at the Semington-based show was Robin Edman, showing a 1934 Bedford furniture removal lorry.
But it was flint knapper Ron Loader, aged 74, who won the best in show with a model of a thatch- ed cottage from his home village of West Grimstead.
