Strike action by NUT members will mean that Devizes School will be partially closed today and a charity non-uniform day has been postponed.

But a poetry competition for pupils in years eight and nine will go ahead as planned and youngsters are being urged to still attend. The school will be closed to other pupils in the two year groups.

Headteacher Malcolm Irons said: “This strike action will affect Devizes School. In order to run the school safely I must have enough teachers to maintain supervision and control of all classes throughout the day.

"Unfortunately in order to do this I will be partially closing the school on Thursday 10th July 2014.”

Years 8 and 9 have been told not to come to school but Years 7, 10 and 12 are to go to school normally and buses will still operate.

The non-uniform day has been postponed until July 17 but the clearance day for Year 11s and the poetry competition will go ahead as normal.
