A thirsty cow from Corsley got more than she bargained for when a trip to the trough led to her getting trapped in the water for nearly two hours.

The fully grown 650kg beast managed to fall into the water and get stuck almost upside down.

She was fully submerged in the trough and partially submerged in the water, which had to be drained when a fire crew from Warminster and a large animal rescue team from Amesbury arrived.

They spent nearly two hours on the farm on Wednesday last week, cutting open the trough before pulling the cow free. She was shaken but was not injured.

Watch manager Adam Martin, an animal rescue specialist, said: “It was a very tricky rescue.

"It was hard to imagine how the cow got in there, let alone how we were going to get it out.”
