Council bosses have come up with a plan to deal with library users’ parking frustration at County Hall.

New proposals will see the Trowbridge car park split into visitors and staff parking, with each given a permit reference allowing Wiltshire Council to stop its staff from parking in the visitor bays.

Initially, visitors will need to go to reception and get a permit from reception, which is the model currently used at the offices in Monkton Park, Chippenham.

The longer-term solution will see library users checking their vehicles in at a terminal at the entrance to the library through a simple interface, which asks for their library number and vehicle registration.

Visitors will be given 45 minutes parking, which can be renewed if they want to stay longer. Other Atrium visitors will be directed to check their vehicles in by reception using the same principle.

A three-week consultation will be take place before the system is introduced.
