Despite 22 days without any rain, July in parts of Wiltshire were still wetter than average with over 26mm of rainfall recorded on one night.

Amateur weatherman Geoff Witts recorded the figures from his Steeple Ashton home, with the heavy storms of July 18 bringing the bulk of the rain, as flash floods battered Trowbridge.

A total of 63.7mm of rain fell in the month, compared to a yearly average of 51.2mm.

In a generally sunny month, temperatures were above average, with a peak of 29.2 degrees on July 26, although it was not as warm as last year, when seven days exceeded 30 degrees.
