North Bradley’s recreation ground has once again been recognised as one of the best parks and green spaces in the country by Keep Britain Tidy.

North Bradley Peace Memorial Trust Recreation Ground demonstrated it was well maintained and had excellent facilities, and is among a record-breaking 1,476 parks and green spaces to receive the coveted Green Flag award.

It has existed since 1944 when it was donated for the villagers’ use, especially homecoming soldiers, and has received the Green Flag Award by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy for six years, excluding last year.

The recreation ground is run by a committee of local people, who will be celebrating their achievement at the annual fete and dog show on site on Saturday, August 30, with the grand opening at 11am by North Bradley Primary School’s headteacher, Jeanette O’Brien.

Trustee Sue Hawker said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Community Award for the seventh year from Keep Britain Tidy. Ours is the only site in Wiltshire to receive this award.

“This award recognises and highlights that people in North Bradley are benefitting from a green space of the very highest quality.
“The facilities are often enjoyed by pupils as part of lessons as well as providing recreation.”

Paul Todd, Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award scheme manager, said: “Quality green spaces are a vital resource for communities and that is why it is so significant that we have given out more awards than ever before.”
