Firefighters in Wiltshire will walk out again in a string of strikes over Government plans to raise the retirement age and change pensions.

The latest strikes in the ongoing dispute between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government will take place over eight consecutive days, from tomorrow until August 16. Union members will walk out between noon and 2pm and 10.59pm and 11.59pm each day.

Fire bosses expect personnel at the full-time fire stations at Swindon, Stratton, Westlea, Trowbridge, Chip-penham and Salisbury will be unavailable for emergency calls at these times. On-call stations at Calne, Warminster, Melksham and Pewsey will also be on strike.

Wiltshire FBU secretary Brent Thorley said: β€œIt’s quite disruptive and it means that a lot of work has to go in to any plans to cover during the strike, which we hope will be fed back to the MPs and back to central Government.”
