Bath Cats and Dogs Home has its annual fun day on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25, and is expecting at least 2,000 visitors.

New attractions will include dance troupes Pumped and The Showgirl Academy, who will be entertaining the crowds with family friendly street dance performances and cabaret-style routines.

The event, from 11am-4pm, will feature the Animal Rehoming Zone where visitors can learn more about the animals available for adoption and potential owners can register their interest.

Other attractions include live agility demonstrations from dogs at the home as well as training tips from the home’s team of animal behaviourists.

Visitors who already have the perfect pet can come along with their well-behaved dog and enter their four-legged friend in the Fun Dog Show.

Categories are: Dog with the Waggiest Tail, Best Young Handler, Prettiest Eyes, Best Rescue Dog, Best Trick, Golden Oldie, Dog the Judge most wants to take home, and Best in Show.

With popular attractions Heart FM, Tractor Ted, Digger Den and the Small Animal Zone all returning by popular demand, it is hoped this year’s fun day will appeal to even more families and animal lovers.

Rachel Jones, head of fundraising, said: "Fun day is one of the most important awareness raising events in our calendar.

"The home is constantly running at full capacity. Every time we successfully rehome an animal, another one on our waiting list takes its place, so we are always looking for potential adopters.

"All funds raised will go towards our running costs which are £1.4 million a year.

"Last year we were delighted that our fun day attracted a record number of visitors, and we are very much hoping for another fantastic turn out."

Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting www.bcdh.org.uk or calling (01225) 787 334, and cost £4 per adult, £3.50 for senior citizens and £2 for children (5-16 year olds).

Under fives are admitted free and family tickets are also available at a cost of £10 (two adults and two children). All proceeds go towards the running of the home.

Well-behaved dogs (on a lead) are welcome and parking on the day at Bath University is free of charge.

Trade stands will offer a variety of goods for sale and refreshments will be available.
