MP Duncan Hames has been meeting young readers taking part in this year’s Mythical Maze themed Summer Reading Challenge at libraries across Wiltshire.
Children sign up to read six books during the summer holidays and receive goodies plus a certificate and medal if they do so.
The challenge aims to build confidence and independent reading, while preventing a dip in children’s literacy levels during the long break from school.
Mr Hames, visiting Melksham Library last Friday, said: “It’s free, inclusive and makes reading fun – a vital ingredient in building literacy.”
Last year, 9,000 children in Wiltshire took part. See www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk
