Pupils at Melksham Oak Community School achieved 58 per cent five A*-C including English and maths.

Headteacher Stephen Clark said: “We are delighted with these results, especially in the light of the significant changes made to the exam system this year."

Headteacher Joe Alsop was thrilled with the results at St Augustine's Catholic College, Trowbridge, as 85 per cent of pupils secured five A*-C grades. But he did highlight how some of the grades had fallen, a trend he felt most schools have experienced.

Headteacher Mike Gunston is delighted with John of Gaunt School pupils' GCSE results. He said: "We have some excellent results once again this year with 57% achieving C or better in English and 58% achieving C or better in maths."

Matravers School saw 82 per cent of pupils achieve five A*-C grades while 52 per cent got 5 A*-C grades with two of the subjects including English and maths.

Headteacher Simon Riding said: "We want to thank everyone for all their hard work and we are very happy with the results."

Mark Stenton, principal of The Clarendon Academy, Trowbridge, said: “We are delighted to report improving GCSE results in line with the excellent progress the academy is making. 

"More students are obtaining the top standard of at least five good grades including English and mathematics. 

"Students and staff have worked exceptionally hard and I am particularly pleased with best ever results in maths."
