Witnesses are being sought following a spate of graffiti attacks in Melksham.
Wiltshire Police believe the tags, which have been left on Lloyds Bank, McDonald’s, Co-op Travel, and the Grade II Listed pillars in Place Road, have links to Mákina.
This is a genre of hardcore techno music which originates in Spain. The attacks took place between last Sunday and Monday morning.
PC Kane Fulbrook-Smith, of Melksham Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I’m just disgusted that somebody has gone around the town and done something like this. Melksham rarely suffers from graffiti and we are looking to act quickly to bring this spate to an end.
“These are businesses and buildings with strong heritage in the town and these actions will not be tolerated. We will be seeing prosecutions when we find those responsible.”
One of the buildings that has also been targeted is the base of the newly repained exterior of Tops Hair Salon, in High Street.
Victoria Stevens, from the salon, said: “It is really disappointing to see this happen as it is an inconvenience to businesses. There are many people in Melksham trying to make it attractive to visitors and this just ruins it.
“The most disappointing this to see is what they’ve done to the pillars as they’re lovely and a big part of the town.”
Police are currently studying CCTV of some the incidents. They are trying to identify a man who is 5ft 6in wearing a red baseball cap, green t-shirt and shorts who was seen in the town when the offences took place.
PC Fulbrook-Smith said: “I’d also ask for the person who committed these offences to come forward and hand themselves in.” Call PC Fullbrook-Smith on 101.
