Trowbridge Philharmonic Choral Society, pictured, will be holding an open evening at Holbrook School in Trowbridge on Monday from 7pm, with an opportunity to meet the group’s new musical director.
Ruth McKibbin, an Australian soprano and conductor will be talking to prospective and existing members at the event.
The aim of the pre-season musical and social evening is to attract new members to the group, ahead of the first rehearsals taking place for the 2014-15 season at the same venue on September 8.
Trowbridge Philharmonic Choral Society has been in existence since the early 1900s and has a membership of approximately 60 singers, but is hoping to encourage more men to get involved.
Soicety spokesman Mavis Green said: “We are going to have some music and the idea is to encourage new members to get involved.
“The evening is open to anyone who wants to meet the members, as well as our new musical director Ruth McKibbin.
“She will be speaking with the choir and getting to know them, plus greeting possible new members.
“It will be a very social and light-hearted evening and we are hoping for a good turnout.
“The group is very friendly and we don’t expect newcomers to have vocal trials or anything like that, but it is an advantage if they can read music.”
Anyone interested in joining the society, but unable to come to the open evening, is welcome to come along to the first rehearsal September 8 instead, which will also be at Holbrook School at 7.30pm.
