Torrential rain did little to dampen the spirits at Westwood’s annual Flower and Vegetable Show.

The numbers through the gates at Westwood Manor did not quite match the 700 visitors last year, but residents’ efforts did not falter.

Categories included the usual fruit and vegetable, as well as crafts, flowers, photography, home-brewing, and entries from the pre-school and primary school.

Winners walked away with a cup and an engraved flower pot, awarded by presenter and The One Show wildlife reporter Mike Dilger Committee member Evelyn Wildy said: “The numbers through the gates were down because of the weather, but the spirit was great.

“There is still a lot of interest in the show; it has been going for many years and has gradually got bigger, although I think we have reached our capacity.

“There was the usual high standard, with lots of colourful flowers and fresh vegetables; the setting was beautiful.”
