A man who had been accused of carrying out a serious assault in the run-up to Christmas has had the charge against him dropped.
Saleem Ayoub, 22, is said to have punched a man outside a nightclub on Monday December 23 last year.
Ayoub was due to face a trial by judge and jury next month after pleading not guilty to assault causing grievous bodily harm.
But the case was brought back before Swindon Crown Court on Friday where prosecutors offered no evidence.
Recorder Nicholas Atkinson QC returned a formal not guilty verdict.
Ayoub, of St Nicholas Close, Trowbridge, was not needed in court for the brief hearing and will be reimbursed his travel costs for earlier appearances.
