PEOPLE in Westbury are expecting to face lengthy traffic delays from the end of September, when a month-long major road maintenance scheme starts on the A350.

Work is due to start on repairing and resurfacing the A350 from one end of Westbury to the other on September 29 for four weeks from 7.30am to 5pm every day on the stretch of road
between the Co-op/Bitham Park roundabout and the Market Place.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane with manually controlled traffic lights during this time, but Wiltshire Council is warning residents and
motorists to expect delays.

Additionally, from October 27 the same stretch of road will be closed for four weeks while
carriageway reconstruction and drainage repairs take place.

Wiltshire and Westbury councillor David Jenkins said: “The work is going to cause an
inconvenience, but once the resurfacing is carried out the roads will be improved.

“That stretch of road has been causing problems for a while now and it will be good that it is permanently repaired. These roadworks have been desperately needed for a long time.

“The negative side is that it will be difficult for motorists while the work is going on and it is important we make it clear that our shops are still open for business.”

The work will involve
reconstruction and resurfacing of the carriageway, footway and kerbing works, drainage repairs, replacement of road markings and the adjustment of ironwork such as drain covers.

Work will then begin on patching the route from the Market Place through to the roundabout with Laverton Road at Chalford.

This will require a day’s  closure of Haynes Road on November 24 and another four days’ closure between Haynes Road/A350 roundabout and the junction with Laverton Road from November 25 to November 28.
