IT will be a battle of the boats on Sunday as Bradford on Avon Sailing Club take part in a Guinness World Record attempt.

The club, behind the Beehive in Trowbridge Road, is one of about 750 taking part in Bart’s Bash to set a record of The Largest Sailing Race in 24 Hours (Multiple Venues).

It has been set up in memory of Andrew Simpson (nicknamed Bart), an Olympic sailor who died while training for the America’s Cup in May 2013.

Anne Cundick, the sailing club’s secretary, said: “We thought it would be fun and it is the first time I think we have done anything like it.

“We have quite a big age range of participants, with the youngest seven years old and the oldest 80 years old.

“It will be a real squeeze getting 25 boats on our stretch of river.”

The race, open to non-members, starts at 2pm and the club needs to have 25 dinghies racing. People can bring their own.
