There was a buzz in Bowerhill on Saturday as the sweet smell of honey filled the air at the annual Wiltshire Beekeepers Day and Honey Show.

The proof of the honey was in the eating for international judge Mike Duffin as he inspected a variety of entries, from soft set honey to dark runny honey, judging consistency, colour, texture and, of course, flavour.

More than 250 entries were brought to be judged at the event in Bowerhill village hall, hosted by Melksham Beekeepers’ Association.

Honey biscuits, sweets and cakes were also tasted before winners were crowned, and a variety of meads, beeswax candles and furniture polish also came under the judge’s watchful eye.

Melksham beekeeper and one of the organisers, Ann Cox, said: “The judge was stuffed from all the tasting.”
