Trowbridge Catholic school St Augustine’s is celebrating after being graded as outstanding in every category in an inspection carried out by Clifton Diocese in September.

While the school, which is located in Wingfield Road, is inspected by the government in regular Ofsted inspections, as a Catholic school it is also looked at by the diocese in a Section 48 inspection.

The inspection judged the school in its overall effectiveness, how good the outcomes are for pupils, the effectiveness of leaders and governors in developing the Catholic life of the school and how effective its provision is for Catholic Education.

The report found that the school was outstanding in all those aspects, adding that it is “well led and managed by the headteacher, senior leaders and governors, who are fully committed to Catholic education”.

Headteacher Joe Alsop said: “I was delighted that we were graded outstanding and that the inspectors were able to witness for themselves how well our vibrant Catholic ethos and Lasallian values permeate and are lived out in every area of school life.

“It is widely recognised we insist on high expectations and so it was pleasing that the inspection report highlighted the outstanding progress the pupils make at all key stages.

“The report also highlighted that the well-being of each child is a high priority, that we have a very effective pastoral care system and that pupil behaviour is outstanding and a very strong feature of the school.

“A great deal of effort from pupils, parents and staff alike over many years has gone into making this an outstanding Catholic school and so I am sure that all members of our community, past and present, are proud that we continue to strive to be the very best that we can be.”
