A Trowbridge-based gymnastics club, which has coached Olympic and Commonwealth athletes for 40 years, has moved.

The West Wilts Esprit Gymnastics Club was at Clarendon Academy in Frome Road, but has moved to White Horse Business Park off Bradley Road.

Kevin Borley, Esprit’s management consultant and company director based in Melksham, said: “The new premises will add to the capacity of the service we can deliver and will see us add a lounge for parents, making it much more comfortable for them.”

The community sports club was founded by Bob and Yvonne Brice and has evolved from an after-school activity to a competitive British Gymnastics registered club.

It has coached notable sporting and gymnastic stars including Sam Bayley, who at 12 won the Great Britain gymnastics championships and went on to become a Welsh Commonwealth gymnast. Swansea’s Premiership footballer Nathan Dyer is one of its former members.

The new gymnastics hall has a 12 sqm competition sprung floor, a 25m vault run up, two sets of asymmetric bars, a double mini tramp, three competition beams and a competition trampoline, as well as a sprung tumble track, pre-school gymnastics/soft play room and mini apparatus for boys.

There are also plans to develop the first floor of the new building, creating a dance studio and lounge area with an accompanying cafeteria and wi-fi.

The club is run by Mr Borley’s wife Sue Clark who has been involved in gymnastics since the age of six and believes the modern facilities will attract a new audience.

She said: “We are about to start freestyle gymnastics – the urban form of jumping around street furniture – appealing to a new market of teens, as well as looking to get into disability activities, street-fit classes and extending our pre-school programmes.

"All of this will be supported by nutritional and fitness expertise.”

Mrs Clark explained that previous medal-winning gymnasts are joining the West Wilts team.

She added: “Francesca Fox, who was Olympic Rhythmic gymnast from 2012, has now joined our coaching team when she’s available as she works in Spain during the summer.”

Property specialist agency Carter Jonas oversaw the move.
