THE new-look West Wilts Esprit Gymnastics Club in White Horse Business Park, Trowbridge is hoping to attract even more members after its official opening on Saturday.

The club has been running for more than 40 years and was based at the sports centre in Frome Road, which it has outgrown.

Kevin Borley, Esprit’s management consultant and company director, said: “The official opening was outstanding and it took us by surprise just how many people turned up.

“We must have had around 300 people at one point and the new facility puts us in a great position to keep growing. The centre of what we do is all about grass roots and making gymnastics available to everyone.”

Esprit is home to over 500 members, with 100 travelling from Bradford on Avon. On Wednesday night the town’s Area Board agreed to a £1,000 grant towards a changing room upgrade and a new fitness suite at the new facilities. They have also applied to the Trowbridge area board for £3,000 towards the new facilities.

The club has already been given money this year which was used to buy equipment to replace that owned by DC Leisure.

The new gymnastics hall features a 12m x 12m competition sprung floor, a 25m vault run-up, two sets of asymmetric bars, a double mini tramp, three competition beams and a competition trampoline, as well as a sprung tumble track, pre-school gymnastics/soft play room and mini apparatus for boys. There are also plans to develop the first floor of the new building, creating of a dance studio and lounge area with a cafeteria. It is can be hired by other gymnastics clubs and also runs county and regional level competitions.
