An articulated 38-tonne Daf lorry hit the front of the Rising Sun pub in Woodmarsh Road, North Bradley, at about 6am today, devasting the entrance to the bar area.
Woodmarsh Road in North Bradley was closed both directions at the Westbury Road junction, because of the accident but has now been reopened after the removal of the lorry.
The driver of the lorry was initially unconscious and was trapped inside the vehicle, before firefighters freed him and made sure the building was safe.
He was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with injuries that are not thought to be serious.
North Bradley CE Primary School has delayed its opening time until 10am this morning due to the traffic caused by the lorry crashing into the pub in Trowbridge.
Headteacher Jeanette O’Brien said: “We have delayed the opening of the school until 10am and we sent out a text to all the parents about 8am to let them know.
“Some didn’t get the text and thought we were open so they are gradually coming in. It’s been very disruptive for everyone, but we are trying to assist the parents in any way we can.
“I was able to get through early this morning when I asked and we are saying that if parents can drop their kids off a bit earlier if they need to.”
