Bradford on Avon florist Kerensa Case has said that she was inspired to open her new shop by the death of her sister.

Miss Case, of Church Walk in Trowbridge, was due to open Boundless Blooms in Weavers Walk today and hopes people will like her fresh approach.

She said: “I’m trying to do something different. Some people have called it shabby chic but I’d like to think that I’m a modern and contemporary florist.”

Miss Case’s 40-year-old sister Halycon was cared for by Dorothy House in Winsley until her death in March. Originally from Southwick, the sisters built up a strong bond and it was Halycon who inspired Miss Case to realise her dream and open her own shop.

She said: “Going through any experience like that makes you appreciate what is important and makes you want to live your life to the full.”

“Halycon loved my creations. I think giving her flowers throughout her illness offered her quite a therapeutic escape, not only the smell, but also just making her feel better.”

The florist has since raised nearly £3,000 for Dorothy House with a Halloween party and a sponsored walk. She has also created a Tulip Fund in Halycon’s name.

Boundless Blooms will be open until late tonight for the Christmas lights switch-on and be offering shoppers a glass of mulled wine.
