Professional basketball player Alex Owumi who played for the official team of Libyan dictator Colonel Gadaffi during the early days of the country’s civil war spoke to pupils at Clarendon Academy last week.
Mr Owumi, pictured, now plays for the Worcester Wolves in England and formerly played for Al-Nasr in Libya.
His tenure with that team was interrupted by the Libyan uprising and civil war, which he eventually escaped leaving his apartment in Benghazi.
Mr Owumi came to the school to speak to Year 11 pupils about his experiences detailed in his book Qaddafi’s Point Guard.
Victoria North, the school’s lead practitioner for English, said: “Year 11 students had the wonderful opportunity to hear the basketball player and writer, share his incredible experiences as a basketball player in Libya.”
“He spoke of how sport and education have shaped his life.”
