Members of Bratton Silver Band will be featured on BBC’s Countryfile when it is aired on Sunday, after a quartet from the band performed at Bath Christmas Market.

The band originally performed at the opening night of the market on November 27 to raise money for their charity for this year, Clifton Children’s Society, which matches children in need of adoption to parents and provides support.

However, the BBC TV programme Countryfile was filming its Christmas special over a two-day period at the same time and invited four members of the band to perform at the end of the show.

The programme, which focuses on what Christmas would have been like for the city’s 18th century Georgian residents, will be shown on Sunday at 7pm on BBC1.

President of the band Lucy Scott, who was joined by fellow members Carol Bowes, Naomi Styles and Faye Coussens for the performance, said: “It was a fantastic experience to be a part of and great exposure for the band.

“We played on the Thursday at the market for charity and then the market organisers asked a few of us to perform on Friday at the end of Countryfile, although the whole band would have played if they could.

“We led the presenters of the show and everyone else who was shopping through a rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas, which will be featured at the end of the show.”

Bratton Silver Band will also be performing a free Christmas Concert at the Jubilee Hall in Bratton on Sunday at 2.30pm.

This will include a performance by the Bratton Silver Training Band, refreshments and a raffle, with the event featuring selection of popular and traditional favourites, as well as carols.
