MORE children are set to receive presents on Christmas day thanks to the Warmin-ster Garrison which has backed the Wiltshire Times and Salvation Army Toy Appeal.

Garrison Sergeant Major Adam Driver, Major Francis Brackley, and Padre Phil McCormack delivered a truck full of toys to the Salvation Army in Castle Street, Trowbridge, to be given to needy parents to wrap up for their children.

Major Brackley said: “It was great to be able to drop the toys off and feel they were going to help a number of families in the area.

“The garrison felt it was good to be putting something back into the community where we live. Christmas is all about spending time with all the family together giving gifts and we don’t want anyone to be left out at Christmas.

“Everyone at the garrison rallied around and we left with a truck full. Major Lang said just by looking at it, he thought it would be enough for 50 families.

“It was great to see the work they do at the Salvation Army as well, like the food parcels they are preparing.

“It will have a great impact on families and we feel it is a worthwhile cause to support.”

Major Kelvin Lang from the Trowbridge Salvation Army said: “It was amazing. They supported us last year and we really appreciated that they would contact us again.

“The number of toys that have come in, we are astounded, it was a real eye-opener, we so appreciate it.

“So many children are going to have a lovely Christmas and there are some really lovely presents.

“The response has been phenomenal. All the supermarkets have been supportive. People have really made the effort and given us a lot of support.”

The toys have now all been collected and the Salvation Army have been busy packing and sorting them.

A list has been sent from Social Services and Janice and Stephen Smith, along with helpers, have been organising the gifts into gender and age groups ready to be sent off to families.
