Bradford on Avon was left in the dark last Thursday by a power cut lasting nearly nine hours.

Southern Electric said the cut was caused by a fault to the network at Winsley and affected around 1,500 people in Bradford Leigh, Elmfield, Winsley and Woolley Green.

Reports were first made at 4.30am and although most residents had power back within the hour those living nearest to the power fault had to wait until 1pm to be restored.

A spokesperson from Southern Electric said: “We would like to apologise for any annoyance or inconvenience that the power cut caused and we ensured that people were restored with power as soon as possible.”
