Senior members of staff at Nutricia were given an insight into dementia during a session run by Alzheimer’s Support on Friday, after presenting a cheque for £1,000 to the charity.

Dementia Friends is a one-hour information session informing people about the five things everyone should know about dementia and how they can turn that understanding into action.

Staff, which including Cem Kucukcan, general manager for Nutricia UKIR, were joined by MP for south west Wiltshire Andrew Murrison, who became a Dementia Friend after being invited along to the company’s base at White Horse Business Park in Trowbridge.

Following the session, Mr Murrison wrote on Twitter: “Pleased to become a Dementia Friend at Alzheimer’s Support’s presentation. Greatly improved my understanding.”

The charity is currently recruiting two new staff to organise Dementia Friends sessions for Wiltshire Council employees and to help communities in Wiltshire become more dementia-friendly.

Development and communications manager at Alzheimer’s Support Stephany Bardzil, who took the Dementia Friends session, said: “It is brilliant that Mr Murrison has become a Dementia Friend.

“We hope that many more people in all walks of life will take the opportunity to find out more about dementia and about small things they can do to support people who are affected.”

Alzheimer’s Support also accepted a cheque of £1,000, given by the company at the request of the staff, who voted to choose a charity to receive the money. Mr Kucukcan said: “We are active members of the national Dementia Action Alliance and believe in supporting people to live well with dementia in the community.”
