A figure of wartime leader Sir Winston Churchill is among 33 life-size celebrity waxworks going under the hammer at Chippenham Auction Rooms on Saturday.

The collection of replicas, created by London’s Madame Tussauds and Gems Studio, is expected to fetch up to £25,000.

Comedy duo Laurel and Hardy have an estimated guide price of £2-3,000, while Henry VIII, complete with all six of his wives, is going for £3-5,000.

Churchill is the most expensive, at £5-7,000.

“Churchill is the gem of the collection,” said principal auctioneer Richard Edmonds.

“He is an outstanding character of the 20th century and there is a lot of interest because of the anniversary of his death. He is the best quality as well, with a finely detailed head.

“If you’re looking for an unusual item for your home, this has got to be it.”

Also going under the hammer will be Charlie Chaplin and Tom Thumb.

The figures are on display at the auction rooms today and tomorrow and you can take a selfie with one of the famous figures if you make a £1 donation to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Saturday’s sale is the last to include a large number of items from Yesterday’s World, the Great Yarmouth nostalgia and social history museum which closed down last year.

Staff said having so many waxworks had given the auction rooms a “creepy” atmosphere, particularly an elderly Victorian lady christened Maude.

“While at the museum, she was the focus of many of the ghost evenings,” said Mr Edmonds.

“We can see why. The eyes do seem to follow you around the room.”

The sale also includes the museum’s preserved early 20th-century pharmacy shop, complete with hundreds of glass vials, pill and medicine bottles, signage and advertising material – expected to sell for £15,000-£20,000.

The sale takes place at The Old Laundry sale rooms in Ivy Road at 10am. Call 01249 444544 or visit www.chippenhamauctionrooms.co.uk
