WADWORTH Brewery in Devizes has scooped gold in this year’s South West England Tourism Excellence Awards beating stiff completion.

The brewery came first in the Small Visitors Attraction of the Year category in Weston-super-Mare last night for its visitor centre in New Park Street.

There were more than 425 entries, over the different categories, with the visitor centre up against attractions such as the Telegraph Museum in Cornwall and the Corinium Museum in Cirencester.

Shelley Field, from the visitor centre, said: “We are feeling very positive this morning after last night’s results.

“This is the first time we have entered and it is abit overwhelming that we got gold, we would have been happy with a bronze."

The excellence awards are the official tourism awards for the region and form the regional heat of the national Visit England awards.

These will take place in May with Wadworth now in the running for a national accolade.
