Police are renewing an appeal for witnesses to the M4 crash yesterday in which a lorry driver died.

The collision occurred on the westbound carriageway between Junction 15 and Junction 16 at approximately 3.20am on Monday 23rd February 2015.

A white articulated lorry carrying pallets of cola left the motorway to the nearside and came to rest on its side in the ditch next to the hard shoulder.

The driver, a 48-year-old man from Burnham-on-Sea, died at the scene.

PS Barrie Card, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts go out to the family of the driver for their loss. A Family Liason Officer from Wiltshire Police has been assigned to the family and will be supporting them through this very difficult time.

"For much of the day, Wiltshire Police and the Highways Agency were able to keep lanes two and three of the M4 open to traffic while officers carried out a forensic examination of the scene. However, during the afternoon it was necessary to close lane one as well to allow for the complex recovery investigation to take place. This caused some congestion in the area.

"We would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen the collision, or anyone who may have seen the lorry prior to the collision, to contact police immediately."

Anyone with information should call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously if preferred.
