Last Monday evening, I joined members of Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon to hear Jonathan Neale of the Campaign Against Climate Change, who gave an impassioned call to action to secure a world fit for future generations.

The Liberal Democrats have doubled investment in green energy, and as a result the amount of our electricity that comes from renewables has more than doubled since 2010.

Lib Dem Energy Secretary Ed Davey also led the negotiations that secured an EU-wide commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent by 2030, and is now working hard towards an ambitious global agreement at the UN conference in Paris later this year.

We’re now campaigning for five new green laws to improve energy efficiency, decarbonise energy and transport, reduce waste and protect our natural environment.

I’ve had a cluster of events in Bradford on Avon lately, including a breakfast meeting with the town’s business people.

We discussed the Historic Core Zone proposals, which fell at the final hurdle placed by Wiltshire Council, the town poll earlier this month.

The big question now is, if not that, then what will Wiltshire Council do to support the town centre and local businesses?

I also enjoyed a moving and thought-provoking concert at the town’s Holy Trinity Church, jointly organised by Bradford on Avon Friends of Palestine and Bradford on Avon Churches Together.

Following a constituency surgery at The Pound arts centre in Corsham on Wednesday, I joined families there enjoying a day of art, creativity and craft-making organised by young carers from Spurgeons.

From there, I went on to the Westinghouse sports ground in Chippenham, to meet local residents and a representative from Siemens to discuss concerns about upholding the conditions on the planning consent which seek to prevent any net loss of sports facilities in the town.

I have tabled a Parliamentary question to the Minister for Sport on this which I hope to ask in the House of Commons soon.

I’ve also been collecting signatures on my petition to set up an urgent care centre at Chippenham Hospital, as proposed by the town’s GPs.

My next surgery will be at my office in Avonbridge House, Chippenham today (Friday) from.
