HEALTHCARE assistant Ellie Moxey certainly attracted attention when she undertook a 48mile charity walk at the weekend dressed as a zebra.

The route took her from Thatcham to Bradford on Avon dressed and was designed to raise money for a project that tackles poverty in Malawi.

Miss Moxey, 19, from Woolley Road, Bradford on Avon, said: "I had great support - from the people walking with me, to those who were interested to find out what I was doing and why I was in a zebra onesie. A few people even gave me donations."

She will travel to Malawi in May to work on a health programme for ten weeks, after gaining a place on the government funded International Citizen Service (ICS).

On return to the UK, Miss Moxey will undertake an Action at Home Project, where she will apply her skills learnt abroad to benefit the local community.

Miss Moxey, a healthcare assistant at RUH, Bath, then plans to study medicine at the University of Exeter in September. She added: "It's really exciting. I wanted to do something worthwhile during my gap year, so I searched online and found out about the project in Malawi. I wanted to focus on health awareness as I feel I've got something to give."

Healthcare is a serious issue in Malawi. 48,000 people died of HIV/Aids in the country in 2013 alone.
