WOMEN in west Wiltshire are being encouraged to put their best foot forward and sign up for Dorothy House’s Bath Midnight Walk which launched last week.

As the hospice’s biggest single fundraiser of the year, the Midnight Walk will be raising money for its ‘Hospice at Home’ service which provides respite for carers and through-the-night care for those at the end of their lives.

The event, which is now in its ninth year, aims to raise £150,000 for the Winsley-based hospice and last year, over 850 women completed the 8km circular walk around Bath, raising £100,000.

Event organiser Emily Knight said: “The cost of one night’s care is £206 and in 2014 our Hospice at Home team provided 17,500 hours of night care.

“All our services at the hospice are free of charge and we rely on the kind generosity of people doing the Midnight Walk to help us keep providing end of life care when it is needed most.”

The women-only walk will be held on Saturday, September 12 and will start on the stroke of midnight at the SouthGate centre in Bath.

Hospice at Home carer Tammy Gillatt, 46 from Trowbridge who will be taking part in the event said: “It is a great cause and a lot of people use Dorothy House. I will definitely have to do some training like long walks and maybe we can get a few of the other carers taking part together to do some walks.”

Registration costs £12 if you sign up before June 20 and all walkers must raise a minimum of £30 in sponsorship.
