INSECTS, bugs and other creepy crawlies are enjoying a new home in Trowbridge Town Park, after children joined Friends of Trowbridge Park for the unveiling of its new bug resort on Sunday.

The bug resort, which is located near the eastern exit of the park on the way to Biss Meadows County Park, has been created over the last six months, with youngsters and their parents helping to put the finishing touches to it.

As part of the bug resort, there is a mini bug hotel, which was donated to the Friends by Trowbridge’s twinned town Leer, with creatures already starting to take up residence.

The Friends of Trowbridge Park is now encouraging locals to visit the bug resort and take inspiration about how they could create something similar in their own gardens.

Chair of the Friends Sharl Adabashi said: “It is inspiring and sets a new standard for bug resorts. It has taken us about six months to create and we have had a number of contributions from local companies.

“The bug hotel in the middle was kindly donated to us by a Trowbridge resident, who had received it from Leer and asked if it would be okay if he could donate it to us.

“As the structure ‘matures’ and bugs ‘take up residence’ there will be lots to observe, so we want to encourage people to visit the bug resort and experience for themselves how it is buzzing and crawling with life.

“The main purpose of the bug resort is to connect and educate kids by showing the importance of insects in life, as they carry out a number of important functions. We also hope that people may pick up a tip or two of how to construct a bug house in their own garden.”

The bug resort is one of many ideas the Friends has for the town park, with the group currently working on proposals to transform the park over the next five to eight years.
