A BRADFORD on Avon pensioner said she is lucky to be alive after a mystery passerby carried out lifesaving CPR when she suffered a cardiac arrest walking through the town.

Ann Skinner, 73, of Downs View, said she was going back to work at the Bradford on Avon Ladies and Gentlemen’s Club on Market Street when she collapsed.

Mrs Skinner said: “The last thing I remember is being with some friends and having a drink before leaving them to walk back to work through The Shambles. The next thing, I remember I woke up in hospital, and not knowing what happened worried me.”

The incident happened between 4.30-5pm on Saturday, April 18. As well as the cardiac arrest, Mrs Skinner suffered bruising to her ribs and cuts to her face.

She believes that it was the quick-thinking actions of a mystery individual which saved her life.

Mrs Skinner said: “Whoever it was that carried out CPR saved my life. My daughter and daughter-in-law have asked around the locals and we can’t find out anything – it's a big mystery.

“I just want to thank them very much for saving my life and letting me be with my family – I hope someone comes forward. If I collapsed at the club then I probably wouldn’t be here.”

While she spent four days in the Royal United Hospital in Bath, Mrs Skinner said that nurses received a call from a “close family friend” – but she is none the wiser who it is. She added: “The nurses told me that they had a phone call from a lady called Jan Scott to see how I was but I didn’t know who it was. The only Jan I know is a hairdresser and it wasn’t her.”

Doctors have also been left in the dark over the cause of the fall.

Mrs Skinner wants anyone with information to come forward so she can thank the person whoever she feels saved her.
