TROWBRIDGE primary school The Mead will be giving locals a chance to experience activities from around the world as part of its Festival of Nations day on Saturday.

The event, which will run from 11am-3pm at the school’s Hilperton site in Hackett Place, will feature live music, dance, games, crafts and activities through 20 cultural exhibits.

It is funded by the Big Lottery and Friends of the Mead School, with support from The Mead Community Primary School and The Mead Academy Trust.

The cultural activities on offer will include African drumming, making wind chimes, hair braiding, painting and a chopstick challenge, while there will be performances from Bollywood Brass, Pantasy Steel Band, Bath Samba and Wiltshire Young Singers.

Mel Jacob, a school governor who has helped organise the event, said: “This is a real celebration of our shared cultural heritage in Trowbridge.

“Our Festival of Nations day will inspire people to discover more about our world and allow them to embrace the rich cultural diversity brought to us by our local community.

“Visitors will travel the world in one day with a “passport” to our cultural exhibits and performance areas. It will be a fun and interactive day for the whole family, which will immerse visitors in the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of different countries.

“We are thrilled to have live music from Bollywood Brass, the Pantasy Steel Band and Bath Samba, as well as local perfumers including Wiltshire Young Singers and The Mead’s own Festival Choir.”

All the activities and entertainment are free and the event is open to all. The event has a website www.festivalofnations.wordpress.com where anyone interested in attending can find out more.
