TROWBRIDGE woman Vanessa Gent is holding a fundraising event at The Stallards Inn on Sunday to raise £1,000 for the Bath branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The 48-year-old, of Bradford Road, decided to organise the event, which will run from 4pm-10pm at the pub in Trowbridge, after her school friend was diagnosed with the condition.

Miss Gent, who hopes to raise £1,000 for the charity, will also be attempting to cycle around all the bays in Jersey with her partner Ian Owen in August as part of her fundraising for best friend Sue Coxhead, who she has known since they went to John of Gaunt School together.

The event at the pub will include a barbecue, bingo and raffle, while all the proceeds put in the pool table and jukebox during the evening will also go towards her fundraising total.

Miss Gent, who suffers from fibromyalgia, said: “I have been friends with Sue since we were at John of Gaunt School together in the 80s, so we have known each other for a long time.

“It was extremely difficult for her when she was diagnosed, but we had known that something wasn’t right for quite a long time. It was quite sad and I wanted to do something to raise money for the MS Society.

“I am slightly limited to what I can do because of my fibromyalgia condition, which is why I decided to cycle around all the bays in Jersey over five days, which is a challenge I can manage.

“The fundraising event will be really good and I’m grateful to The Stallards for helping me out. There will be lots of things going on during the evening, including a raffle, bingo and a barbecue.”

Multiple sclerosis, known as MS, is a condition of the central nervous system and symptoms include vision and balance problems, dizziness, fatigue and stiffness or spasms.
