Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses to two separate incidents on the same day in Melksham.
Firstly an alleged attempted robbery took place at William Hill bookmakers in the High Street between 6 and 7pm on Saturday, May 16.
The second incident took place around 6.30pm on the same evening when police believe a man was knocked to the ground in the High Street, opposite the Parsons Nose pub.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "There were a number of customers in the bookmakers at the time and there would have been people walking along the High Street at the time of the alleged assault.
"If anyone saw either incident they are asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Max Weston, 24, from Melksham, has been remanded in custody charged with attempted robbery and causing grevious bodily harm.
