A MOTORCYLIST has suffered serious injuries after a crash last night near Trowbridge.

The accident happened at about 7.30pm and the motorcylist, believed to be from Holt, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital, Bristol, suffering from chest and spleen injuries and two broken legs.

The car driver sustained minor injuries.

The road was closed at Wingfield crossroads and did not reopen until 1am.

Isn't that always the way, when they are the ones that pull across the road in front of the bike? 'I didn't see you' is the usual comment, while they have a bit of a bump, and the rider is seriously injured or dead.

Dear Anon, No it isn't always the way. I'm a biker and a car driver and have seen plenty of idiotic moves by other bikers and made a few I've thought better of later myself. Nothing in this story has put blame on either party But, as you seem to be an eye witness to this tragic accident may I suggest you contact the Police and give them the information.

Ever wondered why you normally hear that comment???? However, not really an appropriate time for a squabble over motorcyclist's v car drivers, just hope the injured person gets well.

Anon, I can not see anywhere in this report that the driver pulled out in front of the biker. I suggest you keep your crass comments to yourself. They aren't helpful.

Hope the rider makes a full recovery

Umm, me too! Can't help it, it's a way of life. That's how I know what it's like out there. Treat everyone on 4 wheels like they're trying to kill you, and you might just get where you're going, is what my old instructor used to say!
Ever wondered why you normally hear that comment????

Because lots of the time, they don't look properly in my experience, and yes, on occasion, the bike is travelling too fast and is equally at fault.

It doesn't imply it, you're right, but my 'source' (for want of a better word), about this incident isn't the newspaper report, and it IS more or less what happened (allegedly of course, yer honour). Injuries such as he received are common when a bike hits a car head on, and the rider goes over the handlebars (breaking the tops of both legs on the handlebars).
I just hope he recovers from them, and soon. My thoughts are with him, and his family & friends, I've lost too many that way myself so excuse me for being a little 'passionate' about it.

My heart goes out to the friends and family of the rider, I wish them a full recovery. Let this weekend of tragic traffic accidents educate people of the dangers of the road and make people take more care when driving any motor vehicle.

May I suggest getting onto a Bikesafe Course run by the Police. A great way to learn a lot more about safety and the effects of inappropriate speed !

Exactly the comments you would expect to see from country yokels. More used to farm tractors than machines. If I`m ever in court I hope some of these carrot crunchers are not sitting on the jury.

Loving thoughts go out to the rider and family, wishing thenm a full recovery. It doesnt matter who is to blame, lets just wish them a full and quick recovery. And to all of your blameful comments, the roads are very dangerous and more care should be taken. While accidents are just that accidents, they are not intentional, if everyone were to take more care, their would be less opportunity for them to happen. And before I am branded a straw munching tractor driver, I am in fact a biker myself, and have been for over 30 years.

Whats that got to do with it? You not got nothing better to do? Firstly would say best wishes to the rider and what I say is just my opinion in general and not connected to this accident. Trouble is when the weather is good all the part time bikers come out and drive like idiots. They think they can handle it but tragically sometimes they cant.

The biker did know what he was doing and was up to bike-trainer standard so he doesn't really need Bikesafe training, those of us who ride a lot know the old chestnut of cars pulling out 'because they thought they had time' which is what happened in this case. He was very badly hurt and is still in a bad way, all because someone couldn't wait to let him past before pulling out.

In my opinion all car drivers should be forced to do a bike-awareness test as part of the licence test, we all know those close calls where they 'just didn't see you', trouble is it's usually the rider killed or injured, not the car driver. We all make mistakes but bikers more often pay the price despite being much more aware of road safety. I hope you get well soon matey.
