CHURCHFIELDS Primary took full advantage of the sunny weather at its Fun Day at Great Chalfield Manor, which raised more than £4,000 for the school.

The school, which has bases in Atworth and Monkton Farleigh, hosted the first-time event on Saturday and attracted more than 400 people to the 15th Century manor.

Helen Forsyth, who is on the PTA who organised the event, said: “We wanted to do something special, something we haven’t tried before to get the school community together and to create an amazing event where everyone can have some fun. The result was that it felt a bit like a mini festival for local families.

“The amazing property and grounds provided a really unique day out. Everyone was smiling and the children at Churchfields School will benefit from funds raised on this day, which is what we wanted to achieve.”

Attractions on the day included a BBQ, live music, various craft and food stalls and game activities for children.

Many visitors also had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the interior of the Chalfield Manor which was recently featured in the BBC adaptation of Wolf Hall, the fictionalised biography of Thomas Cromwell.

Simon Futcher, headteacher said despite the school having two bases, the event allowed parents to come together in one central place.

He added: “The money goes towards quite a lot of different projects at the school such as our wow days which inspire children at the start of every topic they learn.

“It was a lovely day and we had a lot of parents come from both schools with representatives from both communities.”

The PTA have said due to the success of the day, they hope to put on the same event next year.
